To import your data into OZmap, there are a number of provisions that make this process possible
This process is typically carried out only once, as from the moment you start using the system, you’ll begin mapping your network directly within it.
Setting Up Your Project in Google Earth
Your project must include all the settings you wish to import into OZmap. In Google Earth, the more information you can provide about each element, the more attributes can be imported into OZmap. To achieve this, there are specific guidelines for each type of element:
- You need to organize your elements (Cables, boxes, poles, slack loops, etc.) into separate folders, as shown in this image:
- Differentiate between box types (HUB, CSP) so that when handling the data, you can easily identify their classifications:
- Differentiate between cable types (number of loose tubes, number of fibers);
- Splitters and internal equipment are easier to identify when included in the notes section of box type elements;
- Slack storage should include the following information:
- Length (in meters);
- Name of the cable it applies to;
- Pole or cable point to which it applies.
- Names must be unique.
- If you need to import data into more than one project in OZmap, the KMZ file must be organized into separate folders according to the different types.
How to Export from Google Earth
Your project must be exported in KMZ or KML format.
To export from Google Earth, right-click on your project or a specific element and select the 'Save Place As' option.
Then, in the new window, under 'Type', select KMZ or KML, and click 'Save'.
OZConverter
Your data must be in a CSV file to import your project into OZmap. We provide a tool called OZconverter to convert your KMZ/KML file into XLS and CSV tables.
There, you upload your KMZ file exported from Google Earth and click "Convert":
The result will be six files (three XLS and three CSV) containing the data related to the lines and points marked on the map:
Cables: the lines drawn on your map;
Points: contain any markers that are points in your file, such as boxes, clients, etc.
Regions: will include all polygons in your file, whether they represent areas or gated communities.
If your project contains only poles, you can import them directly into OZmap using the 'Points' CSV file generated by the OZConverter. However, if there is more information or other types of data besides poles, you will need to edit the tables in the format of your choice.
The next step will be to edit your tables according to the type of element you want to import into OZmap.
