Backbone is a project that appears in other projects, helping to avoid duplication of elements. Its core idea is to allow you to connect two or more projects through a main network.
We call this main network the main project, and the projects in which it appears are referred to as subprojects.
What is in the main project appears in the subproject (as long as the user has access). However, subprojects do not appear in the main project. A subproject will only be visible in the main project if boxes are selected, this way, it’s possible to connect a backbone cable to a box from a subproject and continue the backbone path.
To assign a main project to another project, simply go to “edit project” and select the desired main project. It’s important to note that a third level, such as a “grandparent project!, is not allowed. For this reason, any project that already has a main project assigned will not be available to be selected as the main project of another project.
It is possible to navigate from a subproject to its main project, or vice versa, in several ways.
The first method is available in both the main project and the subproject. In the main project, when you enter a box that contains a cable from a subproject, clicking on "go to next box" on that cable will redirect OZmap to the subproject. The same happens when, while in a subproject, you click "go to next box" on a cable from the main project.
The second method is, while in a subproject, to enter a box from the main project. At the top edge, there will be a pencil icon representing "edit." By clicking on it, OZmap will navigate to the main project so you can edit the box.
You can only edit a box, make connections, and add elements within a main project while working inside that main project.
The illuminations transcend project boundaries; that is, you can illuminate a fiber in a cable from a main project, and if that fiber is connected to a fiber in a subproject, the illumination will continue seamlessly.
Through the area report, it is possible to view and group the boxes that are being shared with the main project in the "Shared" tab. In addition to the boxes, for other elements, you can view and filter the project where the element is located through the "Project" tab.
